The Spring Home Expo Mark at the UF/IFAS Leon County Extension was a success! The Leon County 2026 Spring Home Expo was held on Saturday, April 11, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. This family-friendly event featured workshops and demonstrations on buying and maintaining a home, sustainable gardening and living, hurricane preparedness, and more! Along with a few of our volunteers, a few important community leaders such as the district 1 commissioner, Bill Proctor, was also in attendance.
The event was hosted by Leon County Housing Division and their mission in alignment with the Spring Home Expo event is to build partnerships and administer programs that preserve and grow the inventory of safe and sanitary affordable housing in Leon County. The event was kickstarted by the Housing Services Manager, Jelani Marks who gave a strong speech about the importance of this event and the various resources available for the community. The Division's major programs are income driven and include owner-occupied rehabilitation, home buyer counseling, down-payment assistance, and emergency home repairs. Most of their programs are funded through the State Housing Initiatives Partnership (SHIP) program and the Housing Finance Authority of Leon County.
To all the volunteers, staff, and businesses in partnership with Leon County, thank you for sharing your knowledge and resources with the community. The individuals in attendance came with open minds and left with valuable knowledge to continue their home search/buying journey with confidence (and a few fun raffle prizes for their new home).
