During April, in particular the 19th through the 25th, the Leon County Volunteer Department celebrates Volunteer Appreciation Month. Our county wants to recognize all of the individuals who dedicate their time, energy, and compassion to strengthen our communities. Volunteers are the backbone of many of the programs and initiatives and without you we would not be able to continue to host, so we thank you for your service!

In 2026, so far we have hosted various events such as 'The Big Event', 'Spring Seed Library Kickoff', 'African American Read-In', and the 'Woodville Farm Share Food Distribution'. During these events, our volunteers have supported local schools, libraries, food banks, and a wide range of community gatherings, demonstrating a deep and ongoing commitment to serving others. Whether they are organizing food donations, distributing resources such as meals, planting trees within the community, Leon County's volunteers consistently show up in ways both big and small by rippling outward and touching the lives of those in need. Their dedication goes beyond simply giving their time-it reflects a genuine passion for strengthening the community and uplifting those around them. Each volunteer's efforts inspire others to get involved and they create meaningful, lasting connections with other volunteers.

What makes volunteering in Leon County so special is the diversity of opportunities such volunteering with our Library Volunteer Program, The Big Bend, and Parks and Recreation. Our ability to connect to all walks of life, young or elderly, brings passion and purpose to everything they do. Many organizations rely heavily on these dedicated individuals, and without them our community would not thrive as it does. Volunteer Appreciation Month is more than just a thank-you-it's a celebration of community spirit. It's a reminder that when people come together with a shared goal, incredible things can happen. It's also an invitation for others to get involved. Even a few hours of service can make a difference.

To all the volunteers across Leon County: your kindness, generosity, and continuous support inspire us. You are the heroes who keep our community thriving. During this month, and every month, we celebrate you. For those who have considered and want to get involved, now is the perfect time to start.
