Description

Ferst Readers is a 501(C)3, a non-profit organization which has been providing free books and literacy resources to families with children from birth to five years old for almost 20 years. It began in Madison, GA in 1999, but now is operating in 7 states and over 90 communities. If you wish to know more about Ferst Readers, please visit www.ferstreaders.org.

Our most sustainable program format is called a Community Action Team, which is a group of volunteers who are passionate about early literacy in Leon County. We have a local, volunteer Community Action Team in Leon county and we are looking to expand our number of volunteers and number of children receiving books each month.  We currently serve 3 early Head Start Centers with over 100 children who have books coming to their home each month.

We would like volunteers to help with the following tasks:

  • Social Media (post to our Facebook Page)

  • Also, have people like our Facebook page and share our posts to help us get the word out about Ferst Readers

  • Volunteers to work specific events we decide to participate in (Quarterly)

  • Business Connection (to talk with businesses about sponsoring children)

  • School Connection (to help us partner with Leon County Schools to provide more books to children)

(We encourage working in teams of two, but not necessary.)

If early literacy and seeing children fall in love with reading are a passion of yours, we would love to talk more with you about Ferst Readers.

If you would like to work with them to get the program going, please contact Amanda Kubes at ferstreadersleoncounty@gmail.com for more information.
