Landscape and Garden Volunteer - Alfred B. Maclay Gardens - Tallahassee, FL
Enjoy one of Florida's most beautiful State Parks while volunteering at Alfred B. Maclay Gardens State Park, located in the heart of Tallahassee, FL. The gardens are a masterpiece of floral architecture, featuring a picturesque brick walkway, secret garden, reflection pool, walled garden and hundreds of camellias and azaleas. The park is also home to a recreation area, two lakes, and miles of shaded multi-use trails.
The park is currently seeking reliable local volunteers to assist with Landscape and Garden tasks. Examples of assigned tasks may include:
- Pruning and weed pulling
- Debris pickup
- Vine pulling and removal
- Watering and planting
- Mowing
- Spread pine-straw and mulch
- Greenhouse work
Please indicate on your application any special skills or training you have that would be relevant to this position, including:
- Knowledge of irrigation systems
- Prior experience with landscaping or gardening
- Ability to identify plant species
- Ability to safely lift 20 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
- Ability to withstand exposure to the outdoors including heat, cold, inclement weather, and biting/stinging insects.
We ask that volunteers in this position contribute a minimum of one 4 to 6-hour shift per week, preferably on the same day and time each week. Garden volunteers typically meet weekday mornings at 8:30 AM. Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of their volunteer service.
