Title:
Risk Management Intern
Major Objectives:
This is full-time graduate level work, assisting the Risk Manager and key staff with identifying and analyzing various risks, assist in developing risk management controls and contingency plans, and research pending subrogation claims. Assists in supporting the General Liability and Workers Compensation claims process. Communicate and develop recommendations in the advancement of the safety training program and other assigned special research and analysis projects, while gaining significant professional experience and an increased knowledge of the operations and management of Leon County government.
Responsibilities:
Assists the Risk Manager, and other staff with the implementation of County Programs, special projects and any other assigned research and analysis activities for a structured three-month period of time. Independently conducts research and analysis activities on assignments as directed by the Risk Manager, or other lead staff, which includes developing, implementing, or leading the risk management practices that will assist in enabling the County to make risk-effective decisions that create and sustain value to the organization. Collects relevant data and other research materials in regard to General Liability and Workers Compensation claims. Confers with County government staff and external stakeholders. Prepares and presents oral and written reports on special assignments to supervisor. Performs related work and special assignments as required.
Assists the Risk Manager and other staff with the updating the County’s Safety Manual and assist in the re-development of County’s Safety Training Program and other initiatives for a structured three-month period of time. Researches and analyzes issues. Prepares reports and memorandum on key insurance and public information issues impacting Leon County.
Assists the Director of the Office of Financial Stewardship and staff with the development of the County’s proposed annual budget and other management and budget research and analysis. Researches and analyzes assigned division and program budgets. Prepares written and oral reports on completed budget analysis assignments. Assists staff throughout the budget development process including liaison with County staff and external agencies and attending meetings. Performs other management and budget related duties as directed by staff.
Qualifications:
Exercises sound independent judgment, including the ability to interpret County policies and perform outreach to broad internal and external constituencies. Work requires initiative and creativity to complete assignments independently. Deadlines will be very important in this position. The intern will be required to work on numerous projects simultaneously with other individuals, departments, and County staff to meet project deadlines. Intern will be required to accomplish numerous tasks within deadline constraints. Intern must have the ability and initiative to design and implement a research and analysis process.
Personal Computer, word processing software, and spreadsheet.
Knowledge of the general operational practices of state and county government, Skill in written and verbal communication. Ability to take on multiple tasks and meet set deadlines, ability to organize and present clear and concise oral and written reports.
Time and Place:
This internship would be flexible; it would be a Monday through Friday; general hours would be between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm. The intern would perform their duties at the Leon County Courthouse 2nd Floor Risk Management.
Commitment:
This internship commitment would need to be at a minimum of 3-months, ideally for the intern to gain exceptional hand-on training a 6-month commitment would be ideal.
