The Frenchtown Renaissance & Street Corner Giveaway is an annual community outreach event hosted by DRMI to uplift residents in Tallahassee’s historic Frenchtown—the oldest historically African-American community in Florida, rich in culture and resilience.
This community-centered event brings together over 100 residents and 30+ local organizations to provide free resources, essential items, music and dance performances, and community connections. Through a “shop with dignity” experience, families can access clothing, food, hygiene items, school supplies, and workforce and wellness resources—all in one place. Community leaders, law enforcement and youth serve on the community safety panel.
The event also celebrates community pride through engagement, partnerships, and opportunities that support economic mobility, health, and neighborhood revitalization through a family friendly festival-styled event.
Volunteer Roles & Responsibilities
Volunteers are essential to making this event successful. Opportunities include:
- Event Setup (9:00 AM – 11:00 AM)
Assist with tables, tents, signage, and organizing giveaway items - Street Corner Giveaway Support
Help manage distribution areas (clothing, food, hygiene items, supplies)
Assist participants in a respectful, organized “shopping” experience - Vendor & Activity Support
Guide attendees, support partner organizations, and assist with crowd flow - General Event Support
Provide hospitality, answer questions, and ensure a welcoming environment - Event Breakdown (3:00 PM – 4:00 PM)
Assist with cleanup, packing, and site restoration
Qualifications
- Friendly, dependable, and community-minded
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, outdoor environment
- Ability to interact respectfully with diverse populations
- Team-oriented with a willingness to help where needed
