Who We Are
Our Mission: Rescue, Rehabilitate & Educate; Fostering a Kinder Community for People & Their Pets
The Leon County Humane Society works closely with other animal welfare agencies in the community and transfers animals in from other shelters that euthanize for space, including the Tallahassee Leon Community Animal Services Center (City Shelter). We do not take animals in from the public, as we are a limited intake program and our pets are housed in foster homes throughout the community.
We have a large volunteer program that occasionally has openings.
Interested volunteers can complete our volunteer application via our website.
What We Do
Formed in 1960, LCHS has since been dedicated to matching families with homeless pets and educating the community about responsible pet ownership, including spaying and neutering. Each year, LCHS adopts out approximately 500 pets and provides spay/neuter assistance for many more. Our dedicated Board of Directors, advisors, staff, and over 600 volunteers work tirelessly to socialize and provide companionship to all of our animals.
The Leon County Humane Society (LCHS) is a 501(c)3 non-profit, private organization, supported by individuals and businesses in our community and strong partnerships with other animal service organizations and animal welfare alliances.
We are not affiliated with or funded by any national humane groups or governmental agencies and must rely on donations to bring our services to the community.
