Who We Are

We provide a wide array of services to seniors in the Big Bend area of Florida. For a full list of services, please visit: www.ecsbigbend.org

We utilize volunteers in the following areas:

Senior Volunteer Opportunities

Elder Care Services' Senior Volunteer Program provides seniors 55 years of age or older the opportunity to fill numerous community needs, while keeping themselves active and engaged.  Elder Care Services staff link volunteers to a wide variety of activities in the 15-county area of the Big Bend.  Senior Volunteers use their experience to tutor and mentor children, counsel small businesses, assist at health clinics, and also assist other seniors.

Foster Grandparent Program - Provides love and guidance to children with special or exceptional needs at schools, pediatric units and day care centers.

Retired and Senior Volunteer Program - Provides seniors 55 years of age and older the unique opportunity to volunteer their time at local non-profit agencies, nursing homes, libraries, hospitals and transportation services.

Senior Companion Program - Provides companionship to frail seniors along with many hours of respite care for victims of Alzheimer’s Disease and their families, both in their home and at our adult day center, Elder Day Stay.

Seniors Transporting At-Risk Seniors (STARS) - Provides transportation for medical appointments, grocery shopping and other vital errands.

Elder Care Services truly believes that volunteers are at the heart of our organization and often spend anywhere from a couple of hours each week or an afternoon once a year offering their services, time and expertise to our local community.

Nutrition / Meals on Wheels

Elder Care Services’ Nutrition Services Programs have been serving seniors since 1971 by providing a hot meal, which meets one-third of the recommended daily nutritional requirements.

For frail, home-bound seniors, these meals are the lifeline that allows them to remain in their homes and avoid going into a nursing home.

Nutrition Services include:

  • Congregate Meal Sites
  • Frozen Meals
  • Meals on Wheels
  • Transportation to Congregate Meal Sites

Meals on Wheels - This program fills the most basic necessity by providing a hot, nutritious meal, along with a safety check to home-bound seniors through coordination of 30 daily routes.

What We Do

We are a non-profit agency, whose mission is to improve the quality of life for seniors.

Elder Care Services, Inc. is the unquestioned leader in advocating for and serving seniors in the Big Bend area.

  • We provide services that improve the quality of life for seniors
  • We are our area's definitive source of accurate information on aging issues, services and programs affecting seniors
  • We actively advocate for seniors, working with others to fulfill unmet needs in the community

The Elder Care Services' logo is a log cabin quilt design that symbolizes our services. Just as carefully chosen pieces of fabric sewn together make a quilt, basics like a bath, hot meals, clean clothes, transportation, and companionship form a pattern of care for seniors. Through ECS, active seniors make up a vital component of our programs by helping us and others in our community meet the needs of our most frail and vulnerable seniors.

Our vision includes being the definitive source of information on aging issues and services, and acting as an advocate for seniors. ECS collaborates with local, state, and federal agencies, for-profit and non-profit organizations, local schools and universities, and foundations to find resources and solutions for unmet needs in our community. In 2012 over 8,000 seniors and their families received help from Elder Care Services.
