Who We Are
Alzheimer's Project, Inc. provides support and services to individuals with memory disorders and their family care-partners throughout the Big Bend. We were founded in 1991 by Saint Paul's United Methodist Church and later became an independent non-profit 501(c)(3). Due to the generous donations and volunteers of the Big Bend community we are able to offer many services at no cost to our clients.
What We Do
Counseling: Provides individuals or families the opportunity to share their feelings with trained professionals.
Support Groups: Allows the caregivers the opportunity to share their experiences in a safe group setting.
Respite-Social Clubs: Provides individuals living with dementia a safe and stimulating environment and provides caregivers time for themselves. A bi-lingual Spanish-speaking respite is also offered.
Powerful Tools for Caregivers: Educational series that teaches caregivers self-care to thrive, not just survive in a 6-week long class that meets once a week.
AmeriCorps In-home Respite: Trained AmeriCorps volunteers provide qualified caregivers with 8 to 10 hours of in-home care weekly.
Education and Training: Dementia Education Series, Alzheimer's Disease Manual for the Big Bend, Annual Alzheimer's Disease Education and Training Conference, Speaker's Bureau, Lending Library, Volunteer Training, and training for professionals.
