Title Teen Advisory Board Volunteer

 

Objectives 

The Teen Advisory Board  Volunteer –  will uphold the mission of the library by researching and presenting youth directed programing to engage more teens with the library.  

Responsibilities Meet 1st & 3rd Thursday of the month to discuss, plan, coordinate, and present Teen centered programs

 

Qualifications Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Must be, self -motivated, and able to follow verbal and written instructions Must have basic Computer literacy. Must be able to learn library policies and procedures. Skilled in communicating courteously and efficiently with diverse people. Dependability Commitment Monthly virtual and in-person meetings and events 1st and 3rd Thursday 4-5pm 

Programs held at Main and Northeast Library Branch locations

Major Objectives:

The goal of the LCPL Youth Services Department in offering the Homework Hub program is to provide supplemental academic support for kindergarten - 8th grade children after school at several locations in the Library system. The Tutors will work with Library staff to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for the children and volunteers participating in the Homework Hub after-school program. 

Responsibilities:

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:
• Provide tutoring services to children and teens in grades kindergarten 8th grade 
• Ensure that the Homework Helper program runs smoothly and the environment is safe for volunteers and children.
• Become familiar with and promote library resources to students, families, and volunteers.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must be at least 14 years old. Volunteers should be friendly and patient, courteous, able to work with diverse populations; pleasant and supportive of others. Mature high school students welcome. 

 

Benefits to the Volunteer:

 Volunteers will gain the following skills:

Gain experience providing instruction with youth and with the Zoom virtual meeting platform. Participate in a congenial work environment. Learn life skills applicable to future employment Work as part of a team Build customer service experience skills in a library environment

 

Time and Place:

Commitment:

Minimum commitment: 3 Month commitment - providing at least one tutoring session weekly

The ESL program helps newcomers from around the world learn English, prepare for the U.S. citizenship exam, improve workplace skills, and learn about American culture. Tutors do not need to know a foreign language to be an ESL tutor.

The primary duties and responsibilities of this position include:

Participate in a tutor training workshop Tutor adult learners in small groups or one-to-one once per week for one to two hours  Become familiar with and promote library resources to learners

Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years old. Volunteers should be friendly and patient, courteous, able to work with diverse populations; pleasant and supportive of others.
