Volunteer: BuddyKnit Peer Mentor --> HybridBuddyKnit is recruiting peer mentors in support of the Florida Foster Care System. Mentees are aged 2nd to 8th grade, and mentorship can be conducted in a hybrid format, with both a virtual and in-person component. Mentors can either serve as an educational mentor, who would be addressing their student's academic needs or as a companionship mentor, completing fun activities and serving as a positive role model for their student. Along with the weekly mentoring sessions, mentor/mentee pairings have the opportunity to attend local events together across Tallahassee. Mentorship will be conducted through the Leon County School District, where middle-high school-aged volunteers will travel to their mentee's school for a 1-2 hour long mentoring session. Mentors can either serve as an educational mentor, who would be addressing their student's academic needs or as a companionship mentor, completing fun activities and serving as a positive role model for their student. Our current focus is in the south of Tallahassee, with mentees coming from schools such as Sabal Palm Elementary, Bond Elementary, and Fairview Middle School.
