Celebrate this nationwide event with us by volunteering in the historic gardens! National Public Lands Day began in 1994 and remains the nation's largest single-day volunteer effort. All are welcome to join us for a morning of cleaning up the garden beds - you don't need a green thumb to pull weeds!

Youth under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian for the duration of the volunteer event. Scout troops, corporate volunteers, and other groups are welcome! Volunteers not currently registered with Florida State Parks may sign a Short-Term Volunteer Agreement for the duration of the event. Big Bend Cares’ fall event, the Tallahassee AIDS Walk, draws hundreds of participants each year. This year’s walk will be held on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, at 6:30pm at the Southwood Nature Trail. We are celebrating the 35th Annual AIDS Walk this year, working alongside partner organizations Neighborhood Medical Center and Bond Community Health Center.

This event will be a celebration of all of those who have fought so hard to fight the spread of HIV/AIDS. All proceeds help Big Bend Cares in providing direct-care services for our clients and HIV prevention and education for the entire Big Bend region.

A great way to support the Tallahassee AIDS Walk each year with no cost is through the donation of your time! Each year we need helping hands to run the event smoothly, and we encourage individuals and groups to come out help with setup, guiding the walkers, t-shirt distribution and registration, vendor support, and clean-up. Rose volunteers are important in the care and documentation of rose varieties in Goodwood's gardens; many of the rose varieties are historically relevant to Goodwood, and the preservation of these plants is highly important volunteer work.

The rose volunteers work directly with the Operations Manager and Gardens Manager to complete tasks and document progress.

Rose volunteers can work any time Monday-Friday from 9 AM - noon, with occasional weekend times being offered.

Goodwood Museum & Gardens has extensive garden installations on over 20 acres of property that rely on staff and volunteer support to upkeep and preserve.

The purpose of Volunteer Gardeners is to help the Garden Manager maintain garden installations throughout the grounds, including our historic daffodil lawn, butterfly gardens, and more.

Garden volunteers can work any time Monday-Friday from 9 AM - 12 PM, with occasional weekend times being offered.

The key responsibilities are: weeding, watering, and mulching areas as well as identifying hazards, pests, and plant diseases on the grounds.

This position needs to know how to use basic hand tools and be physically able to conduct the tasks. Training is provided to teach how to identify invasive plants and how to care for Goodwood’s plants over the seasons.

Goodwood Museum & Gardens is seeking volunteers to serve on the garden's greenhouse propagation team.

The purpose of the greenhouse propagation team is to grow and maintain all of the plants used in the museum & garden's biannual plant sale fundraisers.

The volunteers work most Friday mornings from 9 AM - noon in Goodwood’s greenhouse and surrounding areas.

The key responsibilities are: propagating cuttings from mother plants, transplanting seedlings, identifying diseases and pests, documenting all plant varieties, and keeping them organized in the greenhouse.

Working as a team with the other volunteers is crucial to the success of our propagation program.

Our greenhouse volunteers also work the day of the plant sale, helping customers.

Previous experience with propagating and plant maintenance is a plus. Expect to do mild to moderate physical work. Training is provided.

Goodwood Museum & Gardens is seeking facility volunteers to assist and support the on-staff facility manager with minor repairs, painting, and construction-based problem-solving.

Facility volunteers have the opportunity to have a hands-on involvement with preserving and protecting a 180+ year old historic structure in the heart of Tallahassee.

Goodwood Museum & Garden is seeking docents to lead tours of the Main House museum.

Docents are primarily responsible for leading tours of the Main House. Tour groups may vary in size from small groups of visitors to large school groups.

Occasionally, docents will be asked to be on site to assist in certain events, such as the opening of a new exhibit in the museum.

Docents support the Museum’s commitment to providing all visitors (students, seniors, adults, and children) with a positive, engaging experience. All docent training is supported by informed docents, staff, and board members. New docents will have the opportunity to practice their presentation skills, learn about Tallahassee history and the exciting stories behind it!

Prior knowledge of local and Goodwood history is not necessary; only an open mind, flexibility, interest, enthusiasm, and time for sharing are required.

The times of our tours are Tuesday through Saturday, 4 tours a day, broken into 2 shifts, mornings and afternoons.

In our criminal cases—whether involving more serious harm (like burglary or attempted homicide) or lower-level offenses (like theft or criminal mischief)—there are times when directly harmed individuals cannot or do not wish to participate. In these situations, we seek Surrogate Impacted Parties—volunteers who have experienced a similar type of harm—to represent the human impact in the restorative process.

What You'll Do:
-Join a facilitated Community Conference as a surrogate for the impacted party
-Share your lived experience of a similar harm to help the responsible party understand the deeper impact of their actions
-Support a meaningful and empathetic conversation that focuses on accountability and healing
-Contribute to co-creating repair agreements with the responsible party

Training & Support:
We’ll provide full training through our self-paced Community Conference Training Manual and work closely with you to ensure you feel prepared and supported throughout the process. We welcome volunteers with lived experience across a wide range of harm—from shoplifting to more serious crimes—who feel ready to support others through restorative dialogue.

In some of our criminal cases, there is no directly participating harmed party—such as when someone’s property is damaged, but the person impacted is unavailable or unwilling to participate. In these cases, RJ still happens with trained Community Representatives who help speak to the broader impact on our shared community.

-Speak to how harms like these affect public trust, safety, and wellbeing

The Meek-Eaton Southeastern Regional Black Archives Research Center and Museum (MEBA) was created in the early 1970s with the motto of its founder, Dr. James N. Eaton, Sr., “African American history is the history of America.” Now home to over 500,000 priceless artifacts, memorabilia, and collections, the institution strives daily to document, educate and promote African Americans’ rich contributions to history in Florida and the larger southeastern region of the United States with the collaborative efforts of Florida A&M University. A MEBA volunteer helps support this mission by assisting in exhibit preparation, managing guided tours, and participating in the museum’s promotion to the community. Their contributions, particularly in community engagement and guest interaction, are vital for fulfilling our mission to preserve and share our collections with the public.

The ideal volunteer should possess strong written and verbal communication skills, along with excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities. Basic computer skills, particularly proficiency in Microsoft Office, are required; experience with software such as Omeka S and aTOm is a plus. An interest in African American history, cultural preservation, or museum and archival work is highly encouraged.

The volunteer should be capable of working both independently and collaboratively in a professional environment. What You'll Be Doing

Looking for a peaceful way to end your day while making a real difference? Our evening chore shift is a great opportunity to support the farm, spend time with animals, and enjoy some quiet, purposeful work as the sun goes down.

Whether you're earning community service hours or just want to lend a hand, this is a rewarding and enjoyable way to get involved.

What You'll Be Doing
Evening chores help wrap up the day on the farm. Tasks typically include:

Filling water buckets and hay feeders

Washing out feed bowls and dishes

Light sweeping of the barn area

Brushing and socializing the goats

Spending time with baby goats (when we have them) to help them get used to people

It’s a calm, simple routine and a great way to decompress while making a difference. Think of it as a little goat-powered therapy session with a purpose.

The Food Pantry Coordinator will assist the Social Service Program Coordinator in all aspects of the Food Pantry Program at the Salvation Army Church of Tallahassee.

Role Responsibilities:

• Responsible for overall operation of the food pantry

• Plans, purchases items of the Food pantry

• Receives food and supply deliveries; selects and pickups food from suppliers as needed

• Gathers, tracks, reports client data; maintains program records & statistic.

Objectives

To assist the County Parks and Recreation Division to provide a camp host at Luther Hall campground to assure a presence for park visitors, help maintain the area's natural resources, perform light maintenance work,  and provide after- hour maintenance and guest services.  To perform such services in exchange for a temporary license to use one recreational camp site at the campground.

Responsibilities

To assist with maintaining park grounds and facilities by restroom sanitation, such as sweeping and moping the floors, cleaning toilets, sinks and showers, refilling toiletries and washing down tile walls.  The frequency of such sanitation is dependent on seasonal volume of use but should occur at least bi-weekly with a daily walk through. Grounds maintenance, such as weed eating, debris cleanup, emptying fire rings, blowing camp site pads, walkways and pavilions, litter removal, cleaning the fish station, emptying trash and recycling receptacles at the Camp Ground and boat landing.  The County shall provide Camp Host equipment appropriate to complete such tasks, and Camp Host shall be responsible to keep such equipment in good working order, ordinary wear and tear excepted. 

Qualifications

Volunteer must reside onsite. Ability to bend and lift for physical activities of park maintenance.

Through our AmeriCorps ‘Legacy Corps for Veterans and Military Families’ (LCVMF) program, we have the unique opportunity to serve veterans and military family members impacted by Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias. LCVMF is a project that provides caregiver support services for veterans and military families. It was developed to meet the need for alternative respite care strategies specifically for veteran and military caregivers. The goal in providing caregiver respite is to keep families in their communities longer, postponing or avoiding institutional care completely.

AmeriCorps member volunteers are needed to provide weekly in-home respite care and support to individuals with dementia so their caregivers can take a break. Once trained by AmeriCorps and in dementia care, member volunteers provide in-home non-medical care, companionship, and a variety of activities for persons with Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Member volunteers commit to a year of AmeriCorps service, and they receive a monthly living allowance, student loan forbearance with paid interest, and an educational scholarship upon successful completion of the program.

CTCO is seeking a motivated college student to assist with the development and implementation of our financial literacy curriculum, targeting kindergarten through fifth-grade students, and students between the ages of 13-17. This volunteer role will involve collaborating with our program staff to formulate engaging content, maintain accurate student records using OpenSIS, and contribute to the program's overall success.

• Assist in designing and developing age-appropriate financial literacy curriculum
• Research creative learning activities that enhance financial concepts for K-5 students

• Organize and update student demographic information, ensuring data accuracy in OpenSIS

The student is needed for Spring, Summer, and Fall Semesters, at least 10 hours per week. The mission of 2-1-1 Big Bend is to provide assessment, emotional support, crisis assistance, education, training, and referrals with accurate, up-to-date resource information. 2-1-1 Big Bend operates Helpline 2-1-1, the Florida HIV/AIDS Hotline and the Family Health Line.  In addition, the agency answers the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and other organizations that contract with 2-1-1 Big Bend for hotline services.  Program Volunteers help us meet this mission by assisting with public relations, special events, administrative tasks, data entry, information and referral, and other projects as delegated. Being an election worker lets you patriotically serve your community in a critical position of trust. Although your service may only be for a few days each election year, your work will have a lasting impact throughout your community for years to come.

Election workers (also known as poll workers) are members of the local community who work at voting sites on Election Day, during Early Voting, or at our office processing Vote-by-Mail ballots. They are short-term paid employees of the Elections Office. Leon County relies on around one thousand election workers each election to staff voting sites, help voters, and run the election. 

Depending on your position, your duties may include greeting voters, verifying voter ID information, handing out ballots, setting up equipment, using a computer, and handling paperwork. You will need to dress and act in a non-partisan manner and treat all voters with dignity and respect.

The volunteer is expected to work from a home or virtual office, during flexible days - part time hours (approximately 20 hours per week),  between 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The DRMI Projects Manager will meet with the volunteer by Zoom, UberConference, Teams, email and phone.  The volunteer will be expected to check-in by email with the Projects Manager at the start of shift and report daily accomplishments at the end of shift.  

We anticipate that full development and implementation will take 6 to 9 months or encompass two semesters.

Through mentorship, training, seminars, workshops, and community outreach programs, we are able to provide our girls with meaningful information.

Responsibilities

This role is an extension of our Digital Marketing department. Responsibilities include creating content for She Academy’s social media accounts. Other duties include creating original content, engagement posts, captions, hashtags, research about marketing programs to support the growth and expansion of She Academy, and creating performance reports to track data and analytics for each platform. Examples of job duties:

● Creating original posts for social media posts and other forms of advertisement

● Researching trends and hashtags to support content creation

● Managing multiple social media accounts at a time

● Completing assigned projects specific to social media platform

We are seeking interns with an interest in helping incarcerated or court involved individuals gain social, emotional and life skills to change criminal behaviors and belief systems that have led to their incarceration or court-involvement. Approved interns will have an opportunity to visit our partner correctional facilities, review and co-facilitate our curriculums, and assist in evaluating program outcomes and effectiveness.  This internship opportunity would be ideal for students specializing in criminal justice, criminology, psychology, sociology, rehabilitation, or similar studies.

Monday – Friday, 8 am to 5 pm (flexible based on class days/times).  Duties will be conducted at the DRMI office at 300 W. Pensacola St., 3rd floor.  Visits to correctional facilities are based on class schedules.  Classes are 2-hours and held onsite at the facility.

Four (4) months would be ideal.  Prison based classes are at least 12-weeks.
