We are looking for volunteers for Emancipation Day on Friday, May 20, 2016. That’s right around the corner! We need volunteers for this historically important event! This event, which is one of our biggest events of the year, commemorates the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation with a reading, local dignitaries, performers and reenactors. This year marks the 151st year since the announcement was made to free the slaves of north Florida. There will be free music and lunch in Lewis Park.
The event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and the Knott House is open from 1:00—5:00 p.m. The Knott House will need volunteers from 9:00 a.m. through 5:00 p.m. If you are available for either the first shift (9:00 a.m.—1:30 p.m. or the second shift (noon—5:00 p.m.) then we could use your help!
Volunteers are needed to help set-up, greet visitors to the park, hand out fans, work at the refreshment stand, serve lunch, hand out surveys, help staff inside the house, and clean-up. Volunteers get a chance to eat a free lunch and watch the event. If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please sign-up at
Minors can volunteer if they have a parent or guardian volunteering with them!
Contact the Knott House Museum if you have any questions about this event at 850.922.2459 or e-mail Lydia Nabors at Lydia.Nabors@dos.myflorida.com.
Thank you for your care and compassion!
