On the fourth Friday of each month, we give deli, bakery, meat, fruit, and vegetable items from Second Harvest to community members for free! This event takes place at our office, located at 2201 S Monroe St., from 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm. Around 10-15 volunteers are needed to sort through the food, and then to help give it out. Lifting heavy boxes (~30+ lbs) will be necessary at some points. Individuals and/or groups are welcome to come, but please contact Kathryn at kbachman@bigbendcares.org or respond to this post before coming.
Volunteers who come to help will need to park across the street at Walgreens if driving here. Enter the front lobby on the side of the building facing away from Monroe St., and we will get you working. Comfortable clothing and secure shoes recommended.
Please note that while I ask volunteers to meet at 1 pm, we only get started once the food truck arrives. Sometimes this is slightly after 1 pm, so patience if this is the case is appreciated. We often finish before 5 pm, but will go no later. I will credit for the full time as long as you stay from start to finish.
