Artopia is a charity art fundraising event that benefits Big Bend Cares. Local and regional artists donate their artwork for this event, which includes a few signed and numbered limited editions. With art and media including painting, sculpture, photography, arts and crafts, and more, Artopia has become a must-attend event, drawing approximately 1,500 participants per year. Artopia features both silent auctions, and a rousing live auction at the end of the evening. But you don’t need to be an art critic to enjoy this lively event! As a matter of fact, there’s just about something for everyone—beautiful art at a reasonable price—in just about every form you can think of! Last year Artopia featured more than 300 pieces of original artwork, including oils, pastels, acrylics, photography, scenography, sculpture, pottery, ceramics, jewelry, woodwork, mixed-media and much, much more. In addition to all of the artwork, local businesses and individuals donate gift certificates or other goodies that you can bid on.
We need about 8-10 people to help us set up for the event at the Donald L Tucker Civic Center, starting at 9 am. It should take 3-5 hours, though this is just an estimate. We prefer that you commit to staying the entire time to ensure that we all work as a team to get it done efficiently and correctly!
We need another group of 13 to help clean up after the event. Volunteers should be at the Civic Center at 10 pm, and plan to stay until we finish (somewhere around 11pm-12am). The more people we have, the faster it will get done!
There will be a volunteer sign-in and sign-out sheet, so if you need us to sign off on community service hours, we can do so. Groups or individuals are welcome to sign up, please just contact Kathryn Bachman at kbachman@bigbendcares.org to arrange this.
