Volunteer: Arbor Day 2026 VolunteersLeon County invites the community to participate in its annual Arbor Day Tree Planting event in honor of Florida’s Arbor Day on Saturday, January 24, at the St. Marks Headwaters Greenway Buck Lake Trailhead. Although National Arbor Day falls in April, we celebrate Arbor Day in January because winter is the best time to plant trees in Florida. This event supports and strengthens habitats for the hundreds of native and migratory species that call Leon County home, while also contributing to the beautification of the community and the overall improvement of the environment. Participants should bring their own water, if able. While a limited quantity of gloves and shovels will be available at the event, attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovels and gloves for optimal participation. Snacks and coffee will be provided, and the event will run from 8 a.m. until the last tree is planted. Title Parks and Recreation Resident Campground Host Objectives To assist the County Parks and Recreation Division to provide a camp host at Luther Hall campground to assure a presence for park visitors, help maintain the area's natural resources, perform light maintenance work, and provide after- hour maintenance and guest services. To perform such services in exchange for a temporary license to use one recreational camp site at the campground. Responsibilities To assist with maintaining park grounds and
facilities by restroom sanitation, such as sweeping
and moping the floors, cleaning toilets, sinks and showers, refilling
toiletries and washing down tile walls.
The frequency of such sanitation is dependent on seasonal volume of use
but should occur at least bi-weekly with a daily walk through. Grounds
maintenance, such as weed eating, debris cleanup, emptying fire rings, blowing
camp site pads, walkways and pavilions, litter removal, cleaning the fish
station, emptying trash and recycling receptacles at the Camp Ground and boat
landing. The County shall provide Camp
Host equipment appropriate to complete such tasks, and Camp Host shall be
responsible to keep such equipment in good working order, ordinary wear and
tear excepted. Qualifications Volunteer must reside onsite. Ability to bend and lift for physical activities of park maintenance. Commitment 6 month minimum but, 1 year preferred.
