20th Anniversary
The Jack Harron Leon County Volunteer Firefighter of the Year will be announced at 11a.m. and the winner will be presented with a trophy from the Earl Bacon Insurance Agency,which has sponsored this event for the past 20 years.
Leon County’s volunteer firefighters are a group like no other. Not many volunteers are expected to be on call 24/7, leave their job at a moment’s notice, or put down children and rush to the scene of an emergency. Through their service, volunteer firefighters place themselves in harm’s way for the sake of a stranger’s life. It is not only the firefighters and rescue personnel that make sacrifices while serving our community, but also the families that support them to do this special voluntary work.
Come and learn what it takes to become a volunteer firefighter. Volunteering as a firefighter can be a very rewarding, but it requires training and can be time consuming since firefighters are called to help with more than just fires. Talk one on one with our volunteers to find out more about the basic requirements and the first steps to serve.
Come out and shake the hands of these dedicated volunteers for their commitment to keep all of us safe. Let’s show them just how much our community appreciates our local heroes.
